Truecaller will answer calls with a digital version of the users' voice generated with artificial intelligence | AI | Personal Voice | Azure AI Speech | TECHNOLOGY

Caller ID application Truecaller has teamed up with Microsoft to launch a new tool that will allow users to create a digital version of their voice with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automatically answer calls through its assistant, hand in hand with the Azure AI Speech Personal Voice technology.

Truecaller is an application for smartphones that offers services to identify calls, block them, record them or manage messaging notifications. With this, users can, for example, request that it identify spam calls and block them.

The company added an AI assistant to its services in September 2022, with capabilities to automatically answer phone calls as well as respond to chat messages. This way, users can see the reason for the call and choose how to respond, for example, requesting that the assistant answer for them.

Now, Truecaller has launched a new feature for this assistant that will allow users to generate a version of their own voice with AI and use it to answer calls automatically. To do this, the company has partnered with Microsoft and will use its new Personal Voice technology, Azure AI Speech.

This is what the company has detailed in a statement on its website, in which it has clarified that it is a technology that has been tested within the framework of the annual Microsoft Build 2024 developer event, where the Redmond firm has presented its latest developments. product at both the ‘hardware’ and ‘software’ levels around AI.

Specifically, with the incorporation of Personal Voice, users who have the Truecaller assistant can record their voice to generate a completely digital version using AI and use it within the assistant.

This way, when the assistant answers certain calls automatically, it can do so with a voice replicated from the user, so that callers will hear the real user instead of one of the types of voice offered by the assistant.

As defined by Microsoft, Azure AI Speech Personal Voice is a technology designed to allow users to create and use their own AI voices in applications created by other developers.

Thus, Truecaller is one of the companies that has obtained early access to this Microsoft technology, implementing it in the assistant of its application to improve the user experience with the service.

“We have taken an important step towards delivering a truly personalized and engaging communication experience,” said Truecaller Product Director and CEO Raphael Mimoun, while clarifying that innovation with Personal Voice “will revolutionize the way that users manage their calls.”
