Instagram extends Limits to teenagers to restrict their interactions to close friends by default | TECHNOLOGY

Instagram has extended the tool that allows you to limit interactions to teenagers’ accounts, which by default only admits those that come from a group of close friends.

The ‘Limits’ tool appeared in 2021 on Instagram to allow users to shield their accounts at times of increased risk of harassment, as it allows unwanted contacts to be restricted, in an attempt to combat hate speech and racism.

Limiting means that unwanted interactions are temporarily silenced, a setting that can be modified (close friends, recent followers, or accounts that don’t follow you). You can also choose a more or less restrictive limitation, and set a notice to remove it.

‘Limits’ has now been extended to teenagers’ accounts which, by default, limit interaction to contacts in the group of close friends, although it can be modified, as reported in TechCrunch. Interactions from other people will be muted.

Instagram has also added a function called ‘Restrict’, which allows you to limit the interaction of specific accounts from those people’s profiles, along with options such as Block or report.

In this case, they will not be able to see if the user is online or their messages, and if they try to tag them, a message will appear warning that they do not allow this action for everyone. Furthermore, the new comments you write on the user’s posts will only be visible to both of you, and will be hidden from the rest.
