OPPO seeks to democratize AI-powered functions such as AI Eraser on its smartphones

OPPO is committed to making smartphones with Artificial Intelligence (AI) functions accessible and democratizing this technology with the introduction of options such as AI Eraser, for photo editing.

The company has filed more than 5,000 patents in the last decade and approximately 70 percent of them are specifically related to artificial intelligence, as reported by OPPO’s Director of AI Technology Strategy, Darren Chen.

From its new AI Center, the company has worked on a series of features that will be incorporated into all its product lines (-the A, F, Reno series and the ‘smartphones’ of the Find family-, of which it has made a preview: AI Eraser.

It is a tool that allows you to delete specific elements of an image and is capable of rrecognize more than 120 categories of objects with 98 percent accuracy to eliminate them automatically through a recognition function of people, plants or buildings, among others.

This editing option, which has already been tested on some of its devices, such as the OPPO Reno 11 series, “has had incredible feedback” and has recorded up to 15 daily uses, according to the manufacturer.

Likewise, he explained that, in association with Google, the Reno12 series and the next ‘flagship’ of the Find X family will feature the large language model (LLM) family. Gemini, as well as with the AI ​​Writer and AI Recording Summary functions.

In collaboration with MediaTek, OPPO has tuned the processors to improve storage and computational efficiency in future flagship models of the brand.

Finally, he said that, through its partnership with Microsoft, the company’s next smartphones will be equipped with capabilities from this other brand to offer a more efficiently accurate and natural voice and text conversion experience.
