Ford is cutting another 1,600 jobs in Spain

The company postponed production investments in Spain in 2022 due to the “revised outlook for Europe”. They confirmed then that by the end of the decade they should start producing electric vehicles in the Spanish factory, warning that their production implies a reduction in the number of jobs.

In spring of last year, they announced that due to the shutdown of production of the Galaxy minivan and the S-Max station wagon, they were closing 1,100 jobs at the plant in Valencia. They also added that from 2027 in Almussafes, in the area of Valencia, they will start producing a new hybrid SUV model for the European market, but also for other parts of the world.

On Wednesday, Ford management notified unions that it plans to permanently cut another 600 jobs, according to a spokeswoman, and is ready to negotiate the possible re-employment of the remaining 1,000 as part of a planned production increase starting in 2027.

“Negotiations are possible on a temporary solution for the other thousand workers in order to bridge the period until the start of production of the new vehicle,” she said.

The company intends to produce 300,000 cars a year at the facility, the Spanish Ministry of Industry announced at the time.

The American automobile giant currently employs 4,800 workers at its plant in Valencia and produces only the Kuga sports utility vehicle. Last year, they decided to cut 2,300 jobs in Germany and 1,000 in Britain. From 2030, they intend to sell only electric cars in the EU.
