Apple Intelligence | 90% of iPhone users will not have access to Apple's new AI features | TECHNOLOGY

There are about 1.5 billion active Internet users in the world. iPhoneaccording to estimates –in the absence of official data–. Of the total, less than 10% will have access to the new artificial intelligence (AI), recently announced by Applewithout having to purchase a new phone.

Last week, the apple firm revealed at WWDC 2024, its event for developers, ‘Apple Intelligence’, a set of AI-based features that, in the words of Tim Cook himself, the company’s CEO, will make its devices smarter and more useful than ever. In this way, the technology company began its foray into this new technology, a foray that comes late if we compare it with the competition.

But the harsh reality came after the enthusiasm. Neither the HomePod speakers nor the Apple Watch, Devices that rely most on voice control will not have access to AI tools.

And that’s not all, if we talk about cell phones, only iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models will receive ‘Apple Intelligence’that is, only two of the 24 models that will receive the new iOS 18 update. That would not, therefore, reach even 7% of the total number of Apple mobile phone users. More than 90% of users of the American brand will not be able to enjoy the technology unless they buy one of these models –or the ones that will be released–.

It must also be taken into account that the new AI functions will arrive in the English-speaking market in 2024 and will not be available in Spanish until at least 2025.

In the case of iPads and Macs, models with M1 or higher will benefit, this includes five of the 15 models compatible with the iPadOS 18 operating system and 13 of the 18 computer models compatible with macOS 15 Sequoia.

Why will ‘Apple Intelligence’ reach so few models?

The explanation given by the company is that, as the new AI functions will be executed from the phone itself, the processing capacity will be high and only models with A17 processors (or higher) are capable of carrying them out.

What changes will Apple’s AI bring?

With the introduction of ‘Apple Intelligence’, Siri has seen a number of significant improvements. The new version is capable of understanding and correcting instructions in real time. Additionally, it has been more deeply integrated with the operating system, allowing it to recognize on-screen context and perform complex tasks. The ability to interact with the virtual assistant via text has also been introduced.

Another new ‘Apple Intelligence’ AI feature is the ability to compose and correct text in applications such as Mail, Pages and Notes. These smart writing tools offer proofreading, rewriting different versions to adjust tone and phrasing, and summarizing.

Now, it’s not just text, Apple proposed Genmoji, a program that allows you to create your own emojis with the classic but personalized style. You just need to type what you want and ‘Apple Intelligence’ creates it automatically.

Apple also introduced an image generator called Image Playground that lets you create by choosing from three styles: Animation, Illustration, or Sketch. Likewise, you can choose between different themes, costumes, accessories and locations for the images.

Among other functions, ‘Apple Intelligence’ can transcribe and summarize phone conversations in the Notes and Phone applications, in addition to summarizing emails and notifications, highlighting relevant messages.
