At the beginning of June 2021, Huawei presented the Harmony operating system to the public, and in August last year they surprised the world public with a new series of Mate60 mobile phones, which are believed to be equipped with chips developed in China. Many interpreted the series as Huawei’s return to the mobile phone market in a higher price category after years of problems caused by American restrictions.
The research company TechInsights had tested Huawei’s new mobile phone and concluded that it is powered by the new Kirin 9000S chip, which according to their assessment was produced by the Chinese Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC).
Huawei’s revenue grew by 9.63 percent last year, and board member Ken Hu announced significantly higher revenue in 2024, highlighting the recovery in the mobile phone business.
In the first weeks of 2024, the company once again took first place on the domestic mobile phone market, dethroning the American Apple, according to a Counterpoint report from February. Huawei returned to the top of the ranking for the first time since the US blacklisted it in May 2019, it added.
In the first five months of this year, sales of new Huawei cell phones jumped 72 percent in the first five months of this year compared to the same period last year, Yu said on Monday.
In the first quarter, the company’s revenue jumped by 37 percent, to 178.8 billion yuan ($24.7 billion). Profit increased almost sixfold to 19.6 billion yuan.
Yu also said that he will present the Mate 70, the successor to the Mate 60 Pro, with the HarmonyOS Next operating system to the public at the end of the year.
