If you’re afraid of video chats because you didn’t put on makeup or fatigue took its toll on your look, soon the messaging software will allow you to adjust your face to a look you’ll like more. According to reports, the upcoming update to the “WhatsApp” application will offer three options at the bottom of a video call: filters, backgrounds and effects. The filter tab will offer features such as softening skin textures, brightening blemishes and reducing fine lines, among others.

The filters will hide any imperfections and “retouch” the skin to make it look more polished without making it look fake. The “Low Light Mode” feature will help improve video quality in poorly lit environments.

Clicking on the “Background” tab will open several backgrounds, from tropical islands to furnished office rooms. This feature was designed with remote work settings in mind and will be useful when users don’t want to show what’s behind them in the room, or simply add a different touch to the video call.

In the Effects tab, users will be able to see integrated augmented reality (AR) features similar to those on Instagram and Snapchat. These AR filters will make video calls dynamic by introducing features like party hats, party poppers, mustaches and more.

In addition, WhatsApp will allow users with this update to send high definition (HD) images as the default media quality, eliminating the need to manually select the HD option for each image.
