A1 Croatia celebrates 25 years: These are the innovations they introduced

A1 Croatia, one of the leading telecommunications companies in the country, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It started its business in 1999 under the name Vipnet, since then they have introduced a series of inter-generational innovations, including the first customer service available 24/7, the first voucher service and the mParking service, which was completely designed and implemented by Vipnet. expert back in 2001.

We are intensively working on the digitization of all parts of Croatia in cooperation with institutions and partners, such as HAKOM, the Croatian Association of Employers, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and the Central State Office for the Development of the Digital Society. To date, we have achieved 98 percent coverage of the population with the 5G network. MMS, video calls

In addition to the introduction of the first customer service and the first voucher service, A1 Hrvatska celebrated the first MMS messages sent in 2002, and the first video calls in 2003, symbolizing the entry into a new era of communication. Furthermore, with the purchase of B.net in 2011, the company achieved the largest acquisition on the domestic market, worth approximately EUR 93 million, and thus achieved a stronger entry into the fixed telephony market, and for the first time, A1 also offered TV services. This move enabled them to further expand and diversify their services.

A1 became the first telecom to introduce Netflix into its service portfolio, along with the existing MAX, enabling users to easily access the most popular movies and series. The company also introduced the possibility of paying via Revolut and KEKS Pay. In addition, it was among the first to offer the Screen Protection service – a completely digital service that enables users to quickly and easily secure mobile devices. Also, at the beginning of 2024, the Travel Insurance service was introduced for A1 users.

Giving back to the community

For the first 12 years of its operations in Croatia, Vipnet at that time was dedicated to demining Croatia. In total, more than HRK 11 million was invested for the demining of almost one and a half million square meters, which is the size of almost the entire Dubrovnik-Neretva county. The company has also demonstrated its social engagement in situations of natural disasters and crises, from the floods in Eastern Slavonia in 2012, the migrant crisis to the earthquakes in Zagreb and Banovina, and the period of the coronavirus. At the end of 2023, A1 Croatia donated 100,000 euros to homes for the elderly and infirm for the decoration of social rooms and outdoor areas, and through the fundraising initiative “Do the Right Thing”, which was launched in 2016, more was collected of 386 thousand euros for various associations that need help, such as the associations Mali zmaj and Sve za nju.

And in order to make the Internet a safer and more positive place, the company mostly for many years it has been conducting numerous activities in cooperation with the Center for a Safer Internet (CSI). All these activities are carried out under the name #BetterOnline, and some of them are the celebration of Safer Internet Day, School of Responsible Influence, Gen Z Academy and many others. In the spring of 2024, the first CSI counseling center in Zagreb was opened in the A1 center in Gajeva street, where CSI experts provide users with additional support and information about safe use of the Internet.

From the very beginning, A1 Croatia has been investing significant resources in the development and education of employees, recognizing their key role in the company’s success and the creation of superior customer service. Već for years it has been on the list of the most desirable employers in Croatia, and this year it is the first on the list in the IT sector according to the “Employer of the First Choice” survey. Over 25,000 respondents participated in the national survey, and the key factors for choosing A1 Croatia were numerous opportunities for advancement, good interpersonal relations and care for employees.
