Almost 19% of IoT-connected devices in Spain are aimed at energy efficiency

Around a 19 percent of devices connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) in Spain are destined for the energy efficiency sector, evidence of the growing importance of this technology in the search for sustainable and efficient solutions.

This is one of the data that emerges from the study. ‘Energy of Things en España’,for which the IoT connectivity services provider and designer of data platform solutions and services UnaBiz has analyzed a total of 5,444,908 connected devices.

UnaBiz has stressed that the current energy situation presents both challenges and opportunities for consumers, businesses and society in general, which is why energy management takes on fundamental importance.

Technology has also become a strategic ally, as it allows monitoring, controlling and optimising energy consumption in different environments and situations, through the use of devices connected to the Internet that facilitate the collection and analysis of data in real time.

For this reason, IoT has established itself as a key tool to promote the energy transition and contribute to sustainable development, as UnaBiz has confirmed in its study, with which it wanted to highlight which regions and sectors have led the Implementation of this technology in Spain with a focus on energy management.

Firstly, the study shows that 18.76 percent of objects connected to the IoT in this country are intended for the energy efficiency sector, with the leaders in its application being: Balearic Islands (with 39.93 percent of devices used exclusively for energy efficiency), Catalonia (23%), Andalusia (18.73%) and Madrid (18.33%).

On the other hand, the report determines that most of the connected equipment is being allocated to projects of water consumption monitoringbecause IoT sensors can detect leaks in real time and allow for an immediate response. This prevents water waste and reduces costs. UnaBiz has also pointed out that these can optimize the use of water in irrigation systems, resulting in economic and energy savings, ideal in situations of scarcity.

6.06 percent of the devices are intended for crop monitoring, as IoT can provide accurate data on soil conditions, humidity and temperature. With this information, therefore, farmers can adjust irrigation and use of fertilizers more efficiently.

IoT is also used to monitor air quality, with 2.34 percent of devices dedicated to this task. In this way, the concentration of pollutants and other environmental parameters can be measured in real time and, based on this information, decisions can be made when it comes to remove the air conditioning or heating.

Finally, the supplier has pointed out that 3.49 percent of IoT devices in Spain are dedicated to monitoring other energy consumption, such as electricity and gas, since they can track the use of these resources in buildings and homes. With the data collected, therefore, Inefficient consumption patterns can be identified and adjust the operating hours of household appliances accordingly.
