WhatsApp is working on a new AI-powered feature that will allow users to generate personalized images of themselves from a set of their photos.
Meta continues to develop various generative AI features and tools on its platforms, such as its chatbot-like assistant Meta AI, which is powered by the open-source large language model (LLM) Llama 3.
In this context, as it became known last May, the instant messaging platform began testing a tool with which users can create a personalized profile image from a text description, as other generative AI tools offer.
Now, the company has also started working on a feature that will use AI to allow users to generate personalized images of themselves from a set of other photos of themselves, such as selfies.
WaBetaInfo has learned this from the beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.14.13, which includes the feature ‘AI-generated images for you’, which explains that it will allow users to choose a set of their own photos, to be analyzed by Meta AI and generate personalized images. “Take photos of yourself, then imagine yourself in any environment, from the forest to outer space,” says the description of the new feature on WhatsApp.
According to the portal, to use this new feature, users must take some “setup photos” in which they appear. After this, Meta’s AI analyses the photos, stores them and uses them as a basis for generating the new images.
Along these lines, users will only need to type ‘Imagine me’ in the Meta AI assistant’s conversation to start generating personalized AI images. Thus, based on the photographs that the user has shared and the text descriptions that they add, Meta AI will generate new content in different scenarios, such as the jungle or in a swimming pool.
This feature is currently under development and will be available to WhatsApp users in a future update. However, it is an optional feature, so it can be disabled from the app’s settings.
Finally, it is worth remembering that Meta’s AI is currently only available in a few countries and is still awaiting its arrival in Europe, where its implementation has been halted, according to a statement from Ireland’s data protection authority, the Data Protection Commission (DPC).
