Ha Tinh agricultural products increase in value thanks to science and technology

The report of the Department of Science and Technology of Ha Tinh at the working session on June 28 cited many results showing that many key local products have improved productivity and quality thanks to the application of new technical advances and technologies, contributing to increasing value and promoting local economic growth.

Through research tasks, we gradually master the technology of selecting and creating high-yield, good-quality plant and animal varieties that are widely adapted to production.

According to the Department of Science and Technology of Ha Tinh, many models of producing Phalaenopsis orchids and Panax notoginseng (also known as Panax notoginseng or Panax notoginseng) using high technology have produced good yields. In households raising giant freshwater prawns, artificial intelligence technology, cement tanks, and tarpaulin ponds have also been applied, bringing economic efficiency.

Phalaenopsis orchid

The model of applying scientific and technological advances in producing Phalaenopsis orchids belongs to the Government’s Program to support the application and transfer of scientific and technological advances to promote socio-economic development in rural, mountainous and ethnic minority areas in the period 2016-2025.

The Ha Tinh Department of Science and Technology said that the Phalaenopsis orchid growing project covers an area of ​​2,500 m2 in Thach Khe commune, Thach Ha district, implemented by Tri Duc Ha Tinh Company Limited from the end of 2022. The model is invested in automation technology in production, including automatic measuring equipment (by sensor) and adjusting light, air humidity, and substrate humidity according to technical standards. The initial investment scale for the platform and technology is more than 7.5 billion VND (excluding production and seed costs).

Thanks to the application of technology, in the first production season of 2023, more than 60,000 Phalaenopsis orchids grew well, with a 100% germination rate, of which more than 97% of flower stalks of grade 1 quality had buds and bloomed. Estimated profit reached over 3 billion VND.

Panax ginseng

Project on Application of Science and Technology in Experimental Planting Model of Bo Chinh Ginseng (Hibiscus sagittifolius Kurz) in Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh, led by Bio Green STC Company Limited. The pilot planting project of Bo Chinh ginseng will be implemented from the beginning of 2024 with an area of ​​1 hectare, aiming to create a premise to expand the area and replace ineffective crops in the locality.

The project has built a model for seedling cultivation, planting and caring for ginseng in Ha Tinh, especially on poor sandy land. The technology applied is the cultivation process according to GAP criteria – good agricultural production practices.

According to the project description, after 5 months, the Bo Chinh ginseng plant is growing well, suitable for local conditions. The expected yield is 5 tons/ha, with initial profits reaching over 500 million VND.

High-tech intensive shrimp farming

Previously, high-tech intensive shrimp farming was only applied in sandy farming areas with favorable conditions such as Cam Xuyen and Nghi Xuan districts. Currently, in Loc Ha, Ky Anh and Can Loc districts, new technology has been applied to increase farming efficiency. Some models are applied such as farming in floating round tanks, farming indoors, intensive farming in 2 phases, 3-phase circulation, and biosafety farming according to VietGAP process.

Among them, the model of applying science and technology is the 3-phase high-tech shrimp farming. This model includes 1 nursery phase and 2 farming phases. The farming pond system is designed with 3 ponds (including nursery pond, phase 1 farming pond and phase 2 farming pond) with an area of ​​1,500 – 1,800 m2/pond, round or square with galvanized iron frame to prevent rust, HDPE tarpaulin around. Farmers apply microbiological, antibacterial and algae-killing technology to clean the pond environment. In addition, circulating water filtration technology (RAS), modern shrimp farming techniques are also used by households.

According to data from the Ha Tinh Department of Fisheries, as of December 2023, the province has nearly 630 hectares of high-tech intensive shrimp farming (an increase of nearly 30 hectares compared to 2021), with 40 households/farming facilities having nursery tanks (with indoor roofs) with a quantity of 320 tanks, a volume of over 90,000m3 meeting the conditions for intensive shrimp farming in 3 stages.

Thanks to the application of technology, farmed shrimp have few diseases, grow quickly and have outstanding productivity of 10-20 tons/ha/crop in earthen ponds, 20-30 tons/ha/crop on sand or floating round tanks, square tanks with roofs.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Hong Thai assessed that there are many factors that have contributed to the achievements in economic growth and cultural and social development in the province in recent times, in which “the most important is the change in thinking and vision of provincial leaders at all levels in making science and technology the main driving force of economic growth”, he said. Ha Tinh’s models of applying science and technology “contribute to restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing added value”.
