YouTube improves Shorts with an auto-layout feature to transform long videos into shorter ones

YouTube has announced new tools coming to Shorts soon, including an auto-layout feature for Android that helps transform longer videos into shorter ones by choosing the best format for them.

YouTube short videos, which arrived in Spain in July 2021, are short, vertical videos that cannot exceed 60 seconds and are shown in its own tab in the platform’s app as well as on the main page of each channel.

The company has acknowledged that Shorts aims to “break down barriers to creation” and make sharing videos “fun and easy” for both experienced creators and those just starting out.

To inspire them, they have developed six new tools, which will be available soon and which are intended to facilitate the creation of Shorts content, as they said in a statement on their blog.

Firstly, he recalled that in August of last year he announced tools aimed at promoting ‘shorts’, which he has sought to improve with the introduction of an option that allows a video to be given an automatic design on Android.

This is a feature that automatically tracks the main theme of a video as it is being converted into a Short. “That means when you’re remixing long-form videos into Shorts, the auto-layout tool will pan, zoom and will automatically crop”, has indicated in the publication.

On the other hand, he has commented that it will be updated with an option ‘Text-to-Speech’, which will give creators “even more ways to express themselves” by having the text of their Short narrated aloud. This recording can be added by tapping the icon ‘Add voice’ -with four available-, located at the top left.

YouTube will also allow users to add stickers that encourage users to share their content by saying “Add yours.” This will “set off a chain reaction” from other creators, according to YouTube.

On the other hand, the platform has indicated that “soon” it will be possible to add automatically generated subtitles directly to the content, so that the Shorts are “more fun, engaging, accessible and useful.”

It has also launched the option to remix a ‘remix’, which allows users to “join in the fun with other creators” while giving their “personal touch” to the remixed content.

To conclude and on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Minecraft, has announced the launch of two new effects in Shorts, Minecraft Spring – which transports users “directly” into the game world – and Minecraft Rush, a new minigame that can be played directly in the player.
