Less than two months until we officially know the new iPhone 16there are already rumors and leaks that are giving us an idea of what we can expect to see in the new phones from Apple.
Unlike other companies, Apple is completely secretive and does not release even the slightest information about its new products.
However, as in all industries, there are specialized analysts who manage to obtain leaks, some more accurate than others.
So far we already know key elements such as the number of iPhone 16 models that Apple will launch, their processors, their cameras and more. A handful of new features already anticipated by leaks, in addition to the possible presentation and launch dates of these long-awaited iPhones that will be one of the best smartphones of the year.
When will the iPhone 16 be released?
For several years Apple has been presenting its phones in September more specifically in the second week, never on a Monday or Friday, so the tentative dates for this year are 10, 11 o 12. Finally, the official date will be known approximately one week before the presentation.
If the same methodology as last year is followed, the event will be pre-recorded, with the possibility of the press being able to go to Apple Park to see it and, at the end, try out the new devices.
When will iPhone 16 go on sale?
The presentation date is one thing, and the launch date is another. The technology company usually starts taking reservations for the devices on the first Friday after the launch, and official sales begin the following Friday.
Taking therefore the previous reference of the presentation, the idea would be to open reservations on September 13 and put it on sale on the 20th of that same month.
However, external factors such as production delays could delay the timing.
How many iPhone 16 models will there be?
The American company is likely to follow the same trend as in previous years and present four new models of the iPhone 16 family, a strategy that has worked quite well so far.
So we would have the two regular models, iPhone 16 y iPhone 16 Plus which would differ in screen size and battery, and the Pro models, iPhone 16 Pro y iPhone 16 Pro Max with better performance than the other two.
There has been talk in previous years that Apple would be working on an Ultra model; however, it is becoming less and less certain that something like that will happen; it could happen, in any case, that it arrives instead of the Pro Max, changing only the nomenclature of the device.
What’s new in the iPhone 16?
In the absence of concrete details and based on leaks and the company’s history, these are the areas where changes are expected:
Size:The iPhone 16 and 16 Pro would share dimensions, although with different weights. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max would also have similar sizes.
Screen: They will all use OLED technology, but differences in size, brightness and refresh rate are expected. According to the most recent rumors, the iPhone 16 Pro will increase to 6.3 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max to 6.9 inches.
Chipset: The big news this year is that all four iPhones could be powered by the A18 Bionic processor, marking a big difference from the models introduced in past years, where the regular versions had a processor from the previous year and only the Pro versions had new ones manufactured that same year. It should be noted that this information has been obtained based on rumors and leaks, so at the time of writing it may not be the case.
Memories:Although Apple never specifies the RAM of its iPhones, it is known that the ‘Pro’ and ‘Pro Max’ models have more storage than the standard models. Last year’s Pro versions came with 8GB and the regular ones with 6GB.
Storage:The iPhone 16, 16 Plus, and 16 Pro will have 128GB, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will start at 256GB, likely keeping TB as the maximum capacity.
Battery: Apple also doesn’t disclose battery capacities, but they’re expected to follow the pattern of device sizes. In order from largest to smallest capacity, we’re expecting: iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16. Approximate capacities would be 3,400, 4,400, 3,500, and 4,500 mAh, respectively.
Cameras: No major changes are expected in the number of cameras, but there will be changes in their arrangement. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will have two lenses (main and wide-angle), while the iPhone 16 Pro will have a triple-camera setup (main, wide-angle and telephoto) with a LiDAR sensor. The iPhone 16 Pro Max could adopt a fourth lens or feature significant improvements compared to the ‘Pro’ model, such as a more advanced telephoto lens.
Among other things, it is expected that the new Apple phones will keep titanium as the manufacturing material, although in the Pro models, just like last year’s model. They will also keep the action button implemented in the iPhone 15, but with the novelty of a second button that would be located below the power button. There is also talk of haptic volume buttons in which, to increase the volume, you will have to slide your finger up or down.
Will the iPhone 16 have artificial intelligence?
At WWDC 2024, iOS 18, the operating system for the new iPhone 16, was introduced. It includes important new features in artificial intelligence that are also available on the iPhone 15 Pro. The models to be introduced this year will be the iPhones best prepared for AI, although previous models will also have some features.
Apple introduced “Apple Intelligence”, a new AI concept that includes an enhanced Siri with advanced natural language capabilities. Siri will be able to remember events based on messages and locate specific photos, among other functions.
Additionally, there is a partnership with OpenAI that integrates ChatGPT with GPT-4 for free and natively on devices, allowing you to reply to and summarize emails and notifications without needing to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus.
What will be the prices of the iPhone 16?
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to speculate on prices, we will finally know them on the day of the presentation. However, it is expected that there will not be excessive changes compared to what we saw in 2023.
