“Final Fantasy XVI” coming to Steam and Epic Games in September

A little over a year after its release on PlayStation 5, “Final Fantasy XVI” will arrive on PC on September 17 through the digital stores Steam and Epic Games Store.

The game, the 16th in the popular Japanese RPG franchise, takes players to the mythical continent of Valisthea, a place not only fraught with danger from the existence of monsters, but also fierce struggles between nations over their ever-dwindling resources in the form of crystals, the source of all magic.

In this dangerous world, the supreme beings are the Dominants, incarnations of fantastic creatures that serve as the equivalent of weapons of mass destruction for each of the kingdoms. The protagonist of the title is Clive Rosfield, protector of his brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, who finds himself involved in a conspiracy that will endanger the future of Valisthea.

Developed by Square Enix, “Final Fantasy XVI” somewhat breaks the mold of previous games in the franchise, by telling a more adult story in the style of “Game of Thrones” and include combat that is more action-packed than RPG-like, designed by “Devil May Cry 5” developer Ryota Suzuki.

“Final Fantasy XVI” will be available in two versions, the basic version with the original game and the full version with the game’s two DLCs, “Echoes of the Fallen” and “Rising Tide.” Those interested can find demos of the game on both Steam and the Epic Store.
