‘Infrastructure to deploy generative AI applications still has many difficulties’

Despite its great potential, data is still not enough to develop the explosive growth of generative AI, according to Dr. Tran The Trung, Director of FPT Technology Research Institute.

In the discussion session with the topic of Data center & AI Cloud, at the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Festival 2024 (AI4VN) on the morning of August 23, Dr. Tran The Trung, Director of FPT Technology Research Institute, Deputy Director of FPT Smart Cloud AI product block, gave a speech with the topic of Data center and AI Cloud.

According to Dr. Trung, compared to traditional AI, generative AI has many differences, requiring calculations, larger amounts of data, and multi-parameter models. “Generative AI is not suitable for old infrastructures,” Mr. Trung said. Currently, Vietnam has not been able to produce computing chips for artificial intelligence, and human resources are still limited.

Artificial intelligence is expected to contribute 14,000 billion to the Vietnamese economy by 2030, with a 50% application growth, contributing to personalization and support for specific industries and fields. However, only 36% of businesses are currently researching it, while the actual number of implementations is only 9%. “The problem caused by artificial intelligence has only exploded in the past 2 years, and the data is not enough. FPT can solve this problem,” said an FPT representative.

Currently, this enterprise focuses its resources on research and cooperates with NVIDIA to solve outstanding problems. “Among the solutions FPT provides on the market, there is a part of NVIDIA’s service. These solutions initially bring efficiency to individuals and businesses,” the expert added.

Mr. Trung gave an example from the case of Long Chau pharmacy chain. Currently, Long Chau has about 1,300 pharmacies in 63 provinces and cities. Pharmaceutical knowledge is complex and constantly changing. Meanwhile, controlling customer advice plays an important role because it affects the health of users.

To solve this problem, FPT Smart Cloud has created an AI solution that generates and trains pharmacists for 5 minutes a day. “Pharmacists are reminded of their shortcomings every day, so the rate of accurate advice has improved compared to before,” FPT representative added.

Continuing the issue of exploiting generative artificial intelligence for businesses, Mr. Ajay Kushwaha – Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture, ASEAN Region, Salesforce said, they also provide complete automation solutions from the first interaction to the after-sales service. After AI genes, applications like Chat GPT are large language models.

To effectively apply artificial intelligence to businesses, it is necessary for AI to understand the context. “Because this is the factor that helps people decide whether to trust AI and understand their data or not,” Mr. Kushwaha emphasized.

Salesforce representative said AI has the ability to work 24/7, can immediately report information to humans and work with customers. Moreover, today in the world there are many investment sources so AI models are developed every day. In Vietnam, the market demand is also very large but has not been fully exploited.

Discussing this issue, Dr. Tran The Trung said that Vietnam is receiving a lot of attention because the young generation is very familiar with technology with 70% of AI gene applications. “It is like a magnet attracting businesses, so we need to take full advantage to create a push to strongly develop generative AI,” said Mr. Trung.

At the end of the discussion, Mr. Trung predicted that AI genes will grow very quickly in the future, equivalent to 50% in the next 5 to 10 years.

AI4VN 2024 has the theme “Unlock the power of Generative AI”. The event is directed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized by VnExpress Newspaper in coordination with the Club of Information and Communication Technology Faculties – Institutes – Schools (FISU), starting from 2018.

The program includes activities: AI Summit, AI Workshop, AI Expo, AI Awards; aiming to provide a panoramic picture from the application perspective, the response of businesses in the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Vietnam.

In addition to the main session of AI4VN (AI Summit) taking place on the afternoon of August 23 with the participation of leaders of the Government, ministries and international organizations, within the framework of AI4VN 2024, an exhibition (AI Expo) including booths displaying typical AI products of businesses, institutes, schools… Attendees have the opportunity to experience new AI application products available on the Vietnamese market.
