Support businesses to transfer technology to Vietnam

The Ministry of Science and Technology has developed many programs to support businesses in applying and transferring foreign technology to Vietnam.

The information was given by Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Chief of Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology at the conference “Promoting application, transfer, innovation and creativity in the Southern region”, organized by the Department of Technology Development and Innovation in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of August 22.

According to Mr. Cuong, the Southern region is an important area, but technology application and transfer activities have not met expectations. He assessed that research to create new technology and new knowledge is necessary to enhance the potential of science and technology. However, enterprises need technology to be applied immediately to meet production practices, so there needs to be immediate solutions. One of them is technology transfer from abroad to Vietnam.

He said that the Ministry of Science and Technology is running programs to support technology transfer from abroad, helping businesses quickly apply it to production and business activities. These programs are very suitable for businesses’ urgent technology application goals. “The representative offices of the Ministry of Science and Technology are always ready to interact and listen to businesses’ needs to find suitable technology,” he said, adding that this will be promoted in the future.

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Tung, representative of the Department of Technology Development and Innovation, said that promoting technology transfer from abroad to Vietnam is stipulated in Decision 1851, which was later amended by Decision 138 approved by the Prime Minister in early 2022. The Ministry of Science and Technology and relevant ministries and branches are assigned to develop a program to support enterprises in applying foreign technology to Vietnam; support organizations and enterprises in transferring, mastering and developing technology; and improve the capacity and human resources of enterprises. The project also identifies a number of priority technology transfer areas such as electronics industry, high-tech agriculture, agricultural processing, etc.

According to Mr. Tung, the unit has built 14 technology maps to help businesses orient their product development appropriately. Technology maps on breeding, gene technology, stem cells, human vaccines, 3D printing… help businesses develop appropriate technology.

Representative of Japanese enterprise, Mr. Yuge Kosei, Head of Marketing and Customer Relations Department, Kanematsu KGK Vietnam Company said that the unit successfully researched proton technology to quickly freeze, keeping food fresh. This technology is granted an exclusive patent. Although there is no transfer plan, Mr. Yuge Kosei said that he is ready to set up factories, produce and do business in Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries.

Ms. Dang Thi Hong Yen, Director of the Center for Applied Research and Science and Technology Services (Tien Giang Department of Science and Technology) proposed the need to strongly develop online connection platforms to help people, businesses and science and technology organizations easily connect information and cooperate. Forums, seminars and connection events need to be organized regularly for stakeholders to meet and exchange ideas. Ms. Yen said that it is necessary to create and maintain successful pilot models of applying new technologies, then evaluate, adjust and replicate them in the community.
