AMD is working on the Z2 Extreme processor for consoles, which will arrive in early 2025

AMD has announced that it is working on its next AMD Z2 Extreme console processor, which will be launched to early next year 2025 and will offer performance improvements to drive smooth gaming.

The technology company introduced the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor in April of last year, which, based on the RDNA 3 architecture was released with the portable console Asus ROG Ally. Thus, it is a chip manufactured with eight cores and 16 threads, which is completed with twelve AMD RDNA 3 control units for graphics and 24 MB of cache.

In addition to the initial Asus console, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip has also been used to equip the consoles Asus ROG Ally Xrecently announced, and Lenovo Legion Go, to ensure the power needed to play smoothly, even for the most demanding titles.

In this regard, AMD has announced that it is working on a New updated processor, AMD Ryzen Z2 Extremewith which it aims to equip new consoles and improve their performance, as well as extend their autonomy to allow for more playing time.

This was announced by the company within the framework of the IFA 2024 in Berlinduring a question and answer session between AMD and Microsoft, where the semiconductor firm has shared its launch target for “early 2025”, as reported by Digital Trends.

One of the points where AMD has focused is the battery, since, as pointed out by AMD’s head of Computing and Graphics, Jack Huynh, the intention is play titles like Black Myth: Wukong for three hours on a portable console, instead of the 45 minutes that these devices currently allow.

In addition to improvements in performance and battery, the new Z2 Extreme processor is also designed to boost functions with Artificial Intelligence (AI), as detailed by the company.

AMD has also announced that for the development of this new chip it is working with various partners, so the launch of this updated processor may lead to the arrival of new updates to portable consoles.

With all this, the technology company will share more news about the successor of the Z1 Extreme early next year 2025when it will officially present the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip and all the advances it will offer for video games.
