Germany tightens border controls

Germany is tightening border control from September 16, the country’s Ministry of the Interior reports, notifying that mobile and stationary police checkpoints will be installed at the land borders with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark.

According to the department, the law enforcement officers serving here will have wide powers. In particular, they can ban third-country nationals from entering Germany.

Police control is already in place at the borders with Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. According to the German authorities, the tightening of border controls will prevent Islamist extremists from entering the country.
