A teacher at the Frères-Voisins nursery school in the 15th arrondissement of Paris was filmed kicking a three-year-old pupil in the back and then pouring liquid on her. A complaint was filed by the parents, reports BFMTV.
The three-year-old girl went to school for the first time last week. The mother tells BFMTV that she dropped her daughter off at Frères-Voisins nursery school around 8:30. The three-year-old pupil is said to have cried – like many children on their first day of school.
That evening, the girl said her teacher had hit her on the back. But at first, the mother thought the child was exaggerating, given her young age. But when the mother came to pick up her daughter again the next day, she was approached by another parent. He showed her a video from the day before. The footage shows the girl crying, after which she was hit hard on the back by an adult woman. The student was then put in the corner, after which the teacher poured a product on the girl. “Are you doing it right?”, the teacher is said to have asked.
The scene was filmed by the mother of another student, and the teacher was reportedly unaware of her presence at the time.
Excuses
The mother of the three-year-old pupil immediately filed a complaint and also provided the video to the police. A preliminary investigation was opened by the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office, according to BFMTV. The case is expected to move to the Paris prosecutor’s office, where the incident took place.
The teacher in question was received by the school principal and the district inspector on September 6. The woman is said to have acknowledged the facts and apologized to the family. She is no longer teaching, but on Tuesday, the Minister of Education Nicole Belloubet called for disciplinary proceedings to be opened and for the teacher to be suspended immediately. A criminal investigation and an administrative investigation were launched, which could lead to a disciplinary board.
According to various sources, the teacher had been working at the school for about ten years. She is described by the mayor of the 15th arrondissement as someone in her fifties “who did not get carried away by her emotions”. “She is not new to nursery education”, it continues.
The young girl was examined by a family doctor on Friday, September 6. In a written statement, the doctor wrote that the child “suffers from a serious psychological trauma.” The mother stated that her daughter is very anxious. She has still not been able to return to school.
