25 percent pay increase, but Boeing workers strike for higher wages

Workers at aircraft manufacturer Boeing have almost unanimously rejected a new wage deal struck by unions and management, and are striking in protest.

The American company had agreed to a 25 percent wage increase, spread over four years. That was the largest increase in Boeing’s history, but the employees want more to compensate for the high inflation of the past years. The union had initially demanded a 40 percent increase.

Several problems with aircraft and production are causing Boeing to lose money. The American aviation authority demanded, among other things, better quality control in the production of the 737.
