Al-Mayadeen: Nasrallah received a “message” from Sinwar

The Lebanese television channel Al-Mayadeen, which is associated with Hezbollah, announced that the Secretary General of the Party of Allah, Hassan Nasrallah, received a “message” from the head of the Hamas political bureau, Yahya Sinwar.

According to the source, in the message, Sinwar thanked Nasrallah for his “condolences” over the death of Ismail Haniyeh (killed in Tehran on July 31, 2024), as well as for his “solidarity” with the Palestinian “resistance.” Sinwar assured Nasrallah that Hamas would continue “to follow the path of loyalty to the blood of martyrs.”

When the message was sent and how it was transmitted is unknown.

Yahya Sinuar. A brief biography

Yahya Sinwar was born in 1962 in Khan Younis and graduated from the Islamic University in Gaza. He was first arrested for terrorist activity in 1982. In 1988, he was one of the founders of the Izzeddin al-Qassam Brigades, the militant wing of Hamas. He is responsible for numerous terrorist attacks and the execution of dozens of Gazans accused of collaborating with Israeli intelligence. Sinwar was sentenced to 450 years in prison, but spent 22 years in prison and was released in 2011 as part of the “Shalit deal.”

For a long time, Sinwar did not hold any political posts, but was responsible for coordinating between the political leadership and the military wing of the group. He was considered the informal leader of Hamas militants, almost as popular as Muhammad Deif.

Like Daif, Sinuar has survived several assassination attempts. In July 2014, during Operation Protective Edge, his home was completely destroyed by the Israeli Air Force. However, Yahya Sinuar himself survived.

His younger brother, Muhammad Sinwar, is one of the leaders of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades and has also survived several assassination attempts.

The Sinuar brothers were actively involved in developing the strategy for tunnel and missile warfare against Israel.

The appointment of Yahya Sinwar in February 2017 to head the Hamas government in Gaza ran counter to efforts to establish dialogue between the Islamic Resistance Movement and the Palestine Liberation Organization. Many in the Palestinian Authority associated the choice with the inevitability of an imminent war between Hamas and Israel.

In March 2021, Yahya Sinwar was re-elected as Hamas’ leader in Gaza. He defeated his main rival Nizar Awdallah, a former adviser to the group’s ideologist Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, in the fourth round by a few votes.

In August 2024, after Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, Yahya Sinwar was declared the new head of the Hamas political bureau.

Hassan Nasrallah. Brief information

Hassan Nasrallah was born in Beirut, according to various sources on August 31, 1960 or November 28, 1959, the eldest of nine children in the family. At the age of 15, he joined the paramilitary Shiite group “Amal”. In 1977, he went to a religious school in An-Najaf (Iraq), but a year later he was expelled for extremist activity.

In 1980, he joined the political leadership of Amal, and after the start of the 1982 Lebanon-Israel War, he left Amal and joined Hezbollah. In 1992, after the liquidation of Hezbollah leader Abbas al-Musawi, he was elected for the first time to the post of Secretary General of the Party of Allah. Since then, he has been re-elected to this post many times.

Hassan Nasrallah is married and has five children. His eldest son, Hadi Nasrallah, was killed in 1997 during an attempted terrorist attack against Israelis. His other son, Jauad Nasrallah, is one of the leaders of Hezbollah, responsible for recruiting agents and preparing terrorist attacks against Israelis.

Since the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006, Hassan Nasrallah has spent most of his time in a well-guarded underground bunker. But in recent years, he has left Beirut several times, including to Damascus and Tehran.

On October 8, 2023, the day after terrorists from Gaza invaded Israel, Nasrallah announced that Hezbollah was beginning active military operations against Israel.
