The US has imposed restrictions on a number of Georgian government officials

The United States today imposed restrictions on a number of Georgian government officials for violating democracy and human rights.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the sanctions, detailing that the head of the Department of Special Assignments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zviad Kharazishvili and one of his deputies, Miller Lagazour, two leaders of the extremist group, Konstantin Morgoshia and Zurab Makharadze, are on the “black list” for grossly violating the freedom of peaceful assembly “foreign during demonstrations against the “agents” law.

The Ministry of State reports that it is going to impose visa restrictions on more than 60 Georgians and their family members who are responsible or complicit in actions to undermine democracy in Georgia.

“We remain concerned about the violation of human rights and anti-democratic actions in Georgia and will consider additional actions. The United States unequivocally supports Georgians’ freedom of assembly, speech, and other fundamental rights without fear of violence, intimidation, or oppression,” the US Secretary of State said.
