Knife-wielding criminal attacks passersby in Rotterdam, shouting “Allah Akhbar”

On Thursday evening, September 19, a man armed with a knife attacked passers-by in the center of Rotterdam, near the Erasmus Bridge. Police said that one person was killed and another was seriously injured in the attack.

The Dutch publication De Telegraaf, citing eyewitnesses, wrote that the criminal had two knives and shouted “Allah akhbar” while stabbing his victim. Police spokesman Wessel Stolle confirmed at a briefing that the police officers who arrived at the scene also heard the criminal shouting this phrase.

The suspect was wounded during the arrest and is in hospital. The police note that the criminal’s motives are unclear, but the investigation is considering all versions, including the version of a terrorist attack.
