Israel launched ground operations in Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said late yesterday that it was conducting “limited ground operations against Hezbollah structures and infrastructure in southern Lebanon” and that these operations were “based on accurate intelligence.”

The statement states that the targets “are located in villages close to the border and pose a direct threat to Israeli settlements.”

The ground operations in Lebanon were preceded by massive airstrikes by the Israeli army on targets associated with Hezbollah, recognized as a terrorist group in the United States.

“Hezbollah” regularly carried out rocket attacks in the direction of Israel, as a result of which tens of thousands of Israelis were forced to leave their homes in the north of the country.

There were also heavy explosions in Beirut late on Monday, with Israeli forces targeting a Hezbollah stronghold in the city’s southern suburbs. The Israel Defense Forces earlier warned residents of three districts of southern Beirut to evacuate.

According to the New York Times, the ground operations are being carried out in small groups, and larger troops will be involved if necessary.

The action plan was approved late Monday evening at a meeting of the Israeli government.
