Chinese student (23) confesses to knife attack in Zurich, children out of danger

The five-year-old boys who were injured in a knife attack in Zurich on Tuesday are out of danger. The public prosecutor’s office in the Swiss city announced this on Wednesday. The suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention.

The incidents took place shortly after noon on Tuesday in Berninastrasse, in the north of the city. The children were on their way to an after-school care center with a supervisor when a man suddenly attacked them with a knife. One of the boys was seriously injured, two others suffered minor injuries.

The suspect, a 23-year-old Chinese student who has been living in Switzerland since last year, was overpowered on the spot by the supervisor and a witness. “He was interrogated in custody and the suspect confessed,” reports the public prosecutor’s office, which still emphasizes “the presumption of innocence.”

“There are no indications yet that there are any accomplices,” it is stated. There is currently no clarity about the suspect’s motives.
