Azerbaijan is not very inclined to sign the peace treaty, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced today during the question-and-answer session with the government in the National Assembly.
“The fact that Azerbaijan brings new topics to the field means that it is not very inclined to sign a peace agreement. And our political task is to change the general environment and atmosphere so that the signing of the peace treaty becomes realistic,” he announced from the parliament chair.
The Prime Minister stressed that regardless of what Azerbaijan says or does not say, Armenia should not change its strategy, but should work in the long-term towards the peace treaty.
- Yerevan and Baku have announced that they have reached a common denominator on about 80 percent of the peace agreement. Yerevan proposes to sign the agreed provisions, have a fundamental document, and then continue discussions on the remaining issues.
- Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also reaffirmed his readiness to sign the currently agreed text of the peace treaty and to leave the unagreed issues to the future. Baku rejected this proposal of Pashinyan. Azerbaijan demands Armenia to change the Constitution, warning that otherwise it will not sign the peace treaty.
