Alarm in Hamburg station about deadly Marburg virus

The alarm was raised at the Hamburg station in northern Germany on Wednesday after a couple showed flu-like symptoms. There are fears of the Marburg virus, but there is no confirmation yet, reports the Hamburger Abendblattes newspaper.

It concerns a couple, the husband of whom is a medical student who has spent the past few days in Rwanda where he examined a patient infected with the Marburg virus. After the two landed in Germany, they took the high-speed train from Frankfurt to Hamburg. On the way they became ill: they felt nauseous and vomited.

And so a great alarm was raised at the Hamburg station for fear that it was a contamination with the potentially fatal virus. Emergency services were present en masse, some in protective suits, the newspaper said. The couple involved was isolated and transferred to a specialized clinic.

The police also briefly closed some train tracks around the high-speed train. After she recorded the details of the 200 passengers on the train, the tracks were reopened, the newspaper writes Bild.

In Rwanda, eleven people have already died from the Marburg virus in recent days.
