US Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for president, met with leaders of the Muslim and Arab communities in Michigan. Meeting participants called on Harris to reconsider the Joe Biden administration’s policy towards Israel.
Wa’il Alzayyat, leader of the Muslim social movement Emgage Action, which supported Harris, expressed disappointment with US policy and asked Harris to do everything in her power to achieve a ceasefire and a review of American policy in the region.
He told CNN that Harris refrained from making promises, but said she was in favor of ending hostilities and was doing everything she could. Muslim leaders again called on her to distance herself from Biden’s policies.
Michigan has a significant concentration of Muslim voters. This is one of the key states, and the support of Muslims here can be decisive. The Harris campaign is paying particular attention to Muslim voters.
