Accident at the Speedboat World Championships in Weißwasser: Pilots collide

Weißwasser (Saxony) – This crash on the water could have ended in a catastrophe!

During a final race of the Speedboat World Championship on Lake Halbendorf in Saxony (Görlitz district), two Formula 500 boats crashed together on Saturday afternoon.

Driver was underwater for several minutes

The collision in the last race of the day was so violent that a boat was catapulted out of the water shortly after the start and overturned. The boat then remained on the water with the cockpit facing down.

The Hungarian pilot Attila Havas (48) was under water for several minutes before rescue workers rescued him Unfallwrack was rescued, who resuscitated him. He was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to a hospital in Hoyerswerda.

The organizers canceled the 2024 Lausitz Grand Prix after the accident on the first day of the race. “There will be no further races,” it said on Sunday morning Facebook page of the organizers. Drivers from nine countries took part in the Lausitz Grand Prix on Lake Halbendorf.

The accident is being investigated by the police
