Swiss theologian Tariq Ramadan must answer for the rape of three women

Until a few years ago, 62-year-old Ramadan was a charismatic leader of Islam in Europe, but fell into disrepute. He is suspected in France of raping several women between 2009 and 2016. Some of the women accuse him of multiple rapes and of using violence. Ramadan has always maintained his innocence.

The man was referred to the criminal court, but appealed. Ramadan also contested the charges before the appeals court. Now the Court of Cassation agrees with the Court of Appeal. This means that Ramadan will be referred to the Paris departmental criminal court.

Ramadan is also not without discussion in Switzerland. For example, in May last year he had to answer for a rape case brought by one woman. He was then acquitted by the Geneva Criminal Court because there was insufficient evidence. But on appeal he was convicted of raping a woman in October 2008 in a hotel room in Geneva.
