‘Istria County lacks 39 doctors and 33 nurses’

“With the measures implemented so far, we have attracted 47 workers to whom we have paid a welcome bonus, and new ones are arriving, so by the end of the year there will be 60-65 in total. We are finalizing the program of measures, just today a survey of workers went out to tell us; to what extent they consider it important or less important,” said Dr. Antić.

She added that since the “baby boom generation” is retiring, an analysis was made until 2028, and until that year in the health care institutions she founded. According to this estimate, the county lacks a total of 139 doctors, 139 nurses and 77 caregivers.

During the discussion, the question was also raised about the additional vehicles for medical transport that were planned until the end of this year, and whether the measures to attract scientific personnel will continue next year.

Pročelnica Antić pointed out regarding ambulance transport and emergency medical service vehicles, that three emergency service vehicles have arrived, seven ambulance vehicles are currently in the process of registration, and six more vehicles will arrive by the end of October. She mentioned that they are very soon within reach of the goal, which is the complete renewal of the vehicle fleet.

Vijenica Koviljka Aški she noted that the problems of the lack of nurses can be solved by administrative workers, because, as she stated, nurses spend 90 percent of their time on administrative tasks anyway.

During the current hour, SDP councilor Vili Bassanese asked Mayor Boris Mileti a question about the issue of the Kaštijun County Center for Waste Management (CGO), given that, he said, “15 years have passed, and the solution to the problem is not in sight”. He appealed for the county to transfer part of the ownership to the cities and municipalities under whose authority that part of the work is carried out.

Župan Miletić he answered that recently some local self-government units did not accept the contracts from the agreement, which foresees that each city and municipality, in accordance with the repayment of the loan, can participate in the work of Kaštijun, both in ownership and management rules. .

“The County of Istria cannot give it away or donate it, we have a law on commercial companies. I suggested that we offer a part of the capital to each local self-government unit, and then, as members of the assembly, determine management rights in a social contract.” said Miletić adding that it would be correct for the municipality of Meduli, in the area where Kaštijun is located, to accept that agreement.
