Polish fan stabbed in Cologne

A Polish football fan was critically injured after being stabbed during a clash between two groups near Cologne Cathedral. A person suspected of being involved in the crime was arrested, the police and public prosecutor’s office said. The 17-year-old had blood on his clothes. The perpetrator is being searched for.

The 32-year-old who was stabbed was one of a group of Polish football fans who were on their way to the stadium for 1. FC Köln’s farewell game for Lukas Podolski.

According to initial findings, the Poles clashed with another group of young men in the pedestrian zone for reasons that are still unclear. From this group, an unknown perpetrator stabbed the 32-year-old in the stomach with a sharp object. He was taken to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
