The Abu Ali Express telegram channel, citing Lebanese sources, writes that a citizen of Israel, the United States and Great Britain, Yehoshua (Shuki) Tartakovsky, after being detained in Beirut, asked to be taken to the Hezbollah office in Dahiya.
These sources claim that Tartakovsky has expressed a willingness to expose “IDF tactics” and said he supports “the resistance in Lebanon and Palestine,” is on the political left, and opposes the Israeli government.
After this, Lebanon’s military prosecutor general decided that he should be deported from the country, which was done, according to the Abu Ali Express publication.
Previously, the Ynet website reported that Tartakovsky was deported from Lebanon after the intervention of US authorities.
On October 9, the Lebanese publication Al-Akhbar, associated with Hezbollah, reported that security services detained in Dahiya, south of Beirut, Israeli citizen Yehoshua (Shuki) Tartakovsky – an Israeli and British citizen, a former ultra-Orthodox from Jerusalem, a graduate of Brown University and London School of Economics.
According to available information, Tartakovsky was arrested in Beirut on October 8, having arrived in the Lebanese capital about two weeks ago as an “investigative journalist.” Al-Akhbar states that he was carrying an Israeli passport, although he entered the country on a British passport.
Israeli media noted that judging by Tartakovsky’s social media accounts, this is not the first time he has visited Beirut.
Yehoshua (Joshua, Shuki) Tartakovsky is a freelance journalist and graduate of Brown University and the London School of Economics, where he studied international relations. He has lived in Latin America, the United States, Europe and the Middle East. He previously worked for the International Defense and Security Group at Transparency International in London and interned at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (Sarajevo), the Global Public Policy Institute (Berlin) and the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (Israel). He also taught in Rio de Janeiro and made a short film in which he interviewed students in Palestine. He wrote about Greece, Turkey, Israel-Palestine, Ukraine and Russia. His articles have been published on Truth-Out, AlterNet, Off-Guardian, Anti-war, Telesur, CounterPunch and others, and he has appeared on Russian RT and Iranian Press TV.
Acquaintances speak of Tartakovsky as a “smart but unstable” person, writes Ynet. They express confidence that he has nothing to do with the activities of any intelligence services.
