For fear of an attack by Israel, Iran prohibits passengers from boarding planes with pagers and walkie-talkies

Starting this Saturday, the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran prohibited the entry of any electronic communication devices such as pagers and walkie-talkies on planes, in view of a possible Israeli attack against the country.

“To maintain flight safety, passengers in the air sector must refrain from carrying electronic communication devices, except for mobile phones, such as pagers and walkie-talkies,” announced the spokesman for the Civil Aviation Organization, Jafar Yezerlu, according to reported the IRNA agency.

According to the source, carrying the aforementioned electronic devices is prohibited both in the aircraft cabin and in the cargo hold of the aircraft.

These measures are adopted in Iran, almost a month after the massive and simultaneous explosion of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon that caused dozens of deaths and thousands of injuries, including the Iranian ambassador in Beirut, Mojtaba Amani, and members of the group Shiite Hezbollah in an attack that was attributed to Israel.

The ban also comes at a time of maximum tension regarding a possible Israeli offensive against Iran, in response to the Iranian missile bombing of Israeli territory on October 1.

That day, Tehran launched 180 missiles against Israeli military targets in retaliation for the assassinations of the political head of the Palestinian group Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran in July, and of Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah and a commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Beiturt, at the end of September.

Israel has assured that it will respond, to which the Iranian authorities have warned that they will respond with more force.

Israel’s unprecedented and surgical attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon unleashed a strong response from the leader of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, who days later was assassinated by Israel in a bombing.

After that Israeli intelligence operation, which infiltrated Hezbollah’s supply chain of communication devices, Nasrallah had accused Netanyahu’s management of exceeding all “limits” and “red lines” with the explosion of “thousands” of communication devices that left 37 dead and almost 3,000 dead in Lebanon.

Nasrallah said in a televised speech that the deadly device explosions across Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday constituted “an act of war and a declaration of war by Israel.” Israel “violated all red lines,” he said, calling the incidents “massacres.”

The leader of Hezbollah, who had led the organization for almost 30 years, was killed in an Israeli bombing of Beirut in late September.
