Head of the German intelligence services: “Russian attacks on NATO should be expected already in this decade”

The head of the Federal Intelligence Service of Germany, Bruno Kahl, speaking at a hearing in the German Parliament, said that even before 2030 Russia could launch a military strike on the NATO bloc.

“The Kremlin considers Germany its enemy. We are in direct conflict with Russia. Putin is not only interested in Ukraine. He wants to create a new world order. Chances are good that we will have to invoke the collective defense clause of the NATO charter,” said a senior official.

Kahl also noted that the Russian regime is now making efforts to create a split in the ranks of the alliance, weakening it in anticipation of a military strike. “Russia’s efforts to conduct hybrid and covert operations, including sabotage that put people’s lives at risk, have reached an unprecedented level,” the head of the BND said.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Russia could attack NATO in the next five to eight years. The leading candidate for the EU post of High Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, the former Prime Minister of Lithuania, shares the same assessment.
