Scholz offers again to talk to Putin

In an appearance before the German Parliament, Scholz recalled that the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, is willing for Russia to participate in a future peace conference. “That is why it is also correct that, when we are asked if we will speak with the Russian president, we say: ‘yes, too,'” he added.

The chancellor, who has made it clear that he will “never” make a decision on this issue outside of the Ukrainian authorities or “the closest partners”, has alleged that the Russian military is also being “victims of Putin’s imperialist madness.” .

Scholz appeared before the Bundestag on the eve of a European Council which, as he highlighted, symbolizes one of the pillars of German foreign policy, integration within the European Union. He has also advocated preserving ties with the United States and other NATO partners, instead accusing parties like the Alternative for Germany (AfD) of undermining national interests.
