This aid, which includes in particular “additional air defense capabilities”, is provided “to meet the urgent needs of Ukraine” in its war against Russia, indicates the White House in a press release.
“The United States will provide Ukraine in the coming months with hundreds of air defense interceptors, dozens of tactical air defense systems, additional artillery systems, significant quantities of ammunition, hundreds of vehicles armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, and thousands of additional armored vehicles,” the statement said.

According to the White House, Joe Biden spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky about “his efforts to increase military aid to Ukraine until the end of his term” in January 2025, while the Ukrainian president kept his American counterpart informed of the latest developments in “its plan to achieve victory against Russia”, announced on Wednesday.
Volodymyr Zelensky said on X that he spoke with Joe Biden and thanked him for this help which includes “long-range weapons”.
“I am grateful to President Biden, both parties in Congress, and the American people for the $425 million in defense assistance announced today,” added the Ukrainian president, who is scheduled to speak at a European Union summit on Thursday.
Since the war began in 2022, the United States has approved some $175 billion in economic or military aid to Ukraine. Joe Biden will be in Germany from Friday for one of his last trips as American president, during which the situation in Ukraine will be discussed. President Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz could be joined by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to press reports.
