Zakharova again claims that Moscow does not use the term “Zangezur Corridor”.

The term “Zangezur Corridor” is not used by Moscow, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated during a briefing yesterday, answering a journalist’s question.

The journalist first noted that “contradictory statements are being made by the Armenian side about the future regime of the Zangezur Corridor”. Yerevan says that the security of the route should be ensured by the Armenian side, and rejects any reference to the tripartite statement.

Emphasizing that these statements are made against the background of the statements of “transferring the protection of the Iran-Armenia state border from the Russian border guards to the Armenian side”, the journalist asked Zakharova what the official position of Moscow is regarding security in the “Zangezur Corridor”.

“I want to draw your attention and remind you once again that we do not use the term you mentioned. And the question of the presence of Russian border guards on the Armenian-Iranian and Armenian-Turkish borders is a completely different topic. As for the Russian position on the unblocking of communications, it has not changed and is being resolved in appropriate formats. We are doing our best for that,” concluded Zakharova.

Although Zakharov again insisted yesterday that Moscow does not use the term “Zangezur Corridor”, after the Putin-Pashinyan and Putin-Aliev meetings in Moscow on October 8, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the Russian President during the half-hour meetings of the “Zangezur Corridor” to discuss the issue.

Earlier, the official Moscow claimed that they were not talking about the corridor, but about the road connecting the western regions of Azerbaijan with Syunik to Nakhichevan.
