Iraq bombs an Islamic State detachment located in the north of the country

Iraqi authorities announced this Thursday that they have bombed a detachment of the Islamic State jihadist group in a new military operation, amid increased activities by security forces against terrorist cells in the Asian country.

The Iraqi Media Security Cell, linked to the Ministry of Defense, has explained that the Air Force has carried out a “successful air attack” in which they have “targeted an important terrorist hideout, which is a cave containing a terrorist detachment composed of four elements of Islamic State gangs between the governorates of Kirkuk (north) and Sulaymania (east).

According to the statement, published on its Facebook social network account, the operation was carried out through “high-level cooperation” that included information from the Military Intelligence Directorate. “Our security forces continue to pursue remaining elements of the defeated Islamic State terrorist groups who are still seeking safe havens,” he added.

Hours earlier, this body announced the arrest of two terrorists, one of them in the governorate of Sulaymania, who had “participated in many battles with the Islamic State”, and the second in Anbar.

The jihadist group retains several hundred fighters distributed in several traveling cells within Iraqi territory, where they have carried out several attacks in recent months, despite the territorial defeat of their ‘caliphate’ and the operations carried out by the forces security.
