Italian surfer pierced by swordfish dies at age 36

A 36 year old from Piedmont, Giulia Manfrini, she died after being pierced by a swordfish while surfing in Indonesian waters off the Mentawai Islands. Local media reported it, quoting Lahmudin Siregar, acting head of the Mentawai Disaster Mitigation Agency, according to whom the accident occurred in an area frequented by surfers called Bengbeng.

According to media reports, the swordfish hit Manfrini in the chest. Two tourists, identified as Alexandre Ribas and Massimo Ferro, noticed the woman in danger and provided first aid and then transported her to the Pei Pei hospital. According to medical tests, the surfer died from a wound five centimeters deep.

In June this year another surfer, the American Erick Robert Soreker, died in similar circumstances on the island of Pagai Selatan.
