Cuba | Blackout for the fourth consecutive night

The death toll from Cuba due to Hurricane Oscar, which hit the eastern part of the island, is at least six. The toll was confirmed in recent hours by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, while a large part of the island with around ten million inhabitants remained in darkness for the fourth consecutive night.

In Guantánamo province, entire areas are flooded and rescuers have been unable to reach the affected areas, Díaz-Canel said. The authorities speak of at least a thousand houses damaged. So far, according to Díaz-Canel who has made it known that he will not be at the Brics summit in Kazan (Russia) to follow the emergency, the electricity supply has only been restored by a third. In Havana the blackout ended for around 90% of users.
