Leon Draisaitl loses with Edmonton despite leading 2-0

Things are still not going well in the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers around German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl. At home there was a 2:3 (1:0, 1:0, 0:2) defeat after overtime against the Carolina Hurricanes, meaning that last year’s finalists suffered their fifth defeat in the seventh game of the season in the North American Ice Hockey League.

The Oliers lost the game despite taking a 2-0 lead into the third period. Connor McDavid scored both goals for Edmonton, and Draisaitl scored the second goal from the power play. The 28-year-old achieved his third assist of the season. After two goals in the third period, Carolina scored the winning goal just under five minutes into overtime.

Stützle scores his fifth assist of the season

Things went better for Tim Stützle. The 22-year-old attacker and the Ottawa Senators won 4-0 (4-0, 0-0, 0-0) away against the Utah Hockey Club. The guests scored all four goals within eight minutes of the first quarter, and Stützle was directly involved in making it 4-0 eight seconds before the end of the first period with his fifth assist of the season. For the first time since 2021, the Senators won an away game without conceding a goal.

Moritz Seider and JJ Peterka were also successful. Seider won 1-0 with the Detroit Red Wings against the New York Islanders (1-0, 0-0, 0-0), Peterka won 4-2 with the Buffalo Sabers (0-0, 2-0, 2 :2) against the Dallas Stars. Both remained without a goal.

Grubauer, Sturm and Reichel luckless

Goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer suffered a 2:3 (0:1, 1:2, 1:0) home defeat against the Colorado Avalance in his fourth appearance of the season with the Seattle Kraken. There was also nothing to gain for Nico Sturm and Lukas Reichel. Sturm and the San Jose Sharks lost 1:3 (0:0, 0:1, 1:2) to the Anaheim Ducks, while Reichel and the Chicago Blackhawks lost out at home to the Vancouver Canucks 3:6 (2: 4, 0:0, 1:2).
