At least 28 people, most of them women and children, died this Friday in an Israeli bombardment against the city of Khan Younis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, within the framework of the offensive unleashed by Israel against the enclave as a result of the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions.
According to local sources consulted by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Israeli planes have attacked a residential building in the Al Manara area, south of the city. In addition to the fatalities, there are dozens of injuries.
The military offensive against the Strip was launched after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian armed groups, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 250 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not commented for now on this particular attack, although they have indicated that their troops “continue to operate in the south” of the enclave, where in the last day “they have eliminated several terrorists since land and air.” They have also claimed to have “eliminated several terrorists” in operations in the center of the Strip, as well as various infrastructures supposedly linked to the group.
The Gaza authorities, controlled by Hamas, have put the death toll at the hands of the Israeli Army at more than 42,800, to which are added nearly 750 Palestinians killed at the hands of the Israeli security forces and in attacks carried out by settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since that date.
