US presidential candidates are spending record amounts on advertising

In the final stages of the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump sharply increased spending on advertising and voter outreach.

According to financial reports released Thursday, the two candidates together spent a record half a billion dollars in the past sixteen days, the New York Times reported.

The candidates themselves spent $265 million between them, and their political action committees (PACs) spent another $260 million.

Since the start of the presidential race, Harris and Biden have collected $1.8 billion in funding, while Trump has surpassed the $1 billion mark just these days.
