Israel charges Guterres for regretting the death of a UNRWA employee that the IDF links to Hamas

The Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, has once again attacked the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, on this occasion for having regretted the death of a worker from the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) who The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) place a Hamas commander responsible for part of the October 7 attacks.

The Israeli Army reported on the eve of the death of Mohamad Abu Atawi, a commander of the Najba Force – the elite group of Hamas’s armed wing, the Ezzeldin al Qassam Brigades – responsible for the attack on a shelter where They sheltered dozens of attendees at the Nova Festival, the epicenter of the attacks by Islamist groups on October 7. 16 people died there and another four were kidnapped and taken to the Gaza Strip.

In addition, the Israeli authorities attached some alleged files that linked Atawi to UNRWA and showed that he had supposedly been working as a driver since July 2, 2022. Guterres launched a message on his social networks in the evening in which he denounced the humanitarian situation in Gaza and took the opportunity to mourn the death of “another of our UNRWA colleagues”, although without providing more details.

Now, Minister Katz has come out against this publication and, also on his social networks, has recalled that Guterres was already declared ‘persona non grata’ by the Israeli Government and that he now reaches “new levels of hypocrisy and insensitivity.” “Who exactly are we crying about? Mohamad Abu Atawi, commander of the Nujba Unit (…) who led the massacre in the Reim shelter on October 7,” said the representative of Israel’s diplomacy.

Thus, based on these arguments, Minister Katz has assured that “Guterres and UNRWA are complicit in war crimes.”
