Five of her relatives were murdered at home, but 11-year-old girl survived shooting by pretending to be dead

The police and the judiciary are still busy with the investigation because they do not want to rule out any avenue. Because although everything may seem more or less clear now, “who says that everyone tells the truth”, it sounds. They already have reason enough to doubt that.

The family’s 11-year-old daughter, she told police, remembers waking up to the sound of gunshots on Monday. When she looked outside, she saw her father Mark Humiston with blood on his head and her 9-year-old brother with blood in his mouth. Both of them stopped moving.

As her 7-year-old sister panicked from their shared bedroom to walk to her parents’ room, the 11-year-old girl heard another shot, she said in a video interview. The 7-year-old girl was the third victim.

The 11-year-old girl told investigators that the gunman then came to her bedroom and shot his gun once or twice, hitting her hand and neck.

Father’s gun

Despite the pain she felt from the impact of the bullet, she recognized the weapon. “It was my father’s silver Glock pistol,” she stated.

And she also recognized the shooter, she said. “It was my 15-year-old brother.”

The girl said she saw her brother walk to the bodies of her other shot relatives to see if they were still alive. She herself pretended to be dead when he stood next to her bed. “I saw blood everywhere, I was in pain, but that was the only way to survive. Otherwise he would certainly have shot again,” she told investigators.

According to investigators, her mother, Sarah Huminston, and their 13-year-old brother were shot elsewhere in the home. So five family members were killed in cold blood.

The girl told investigators she escaped through a “fire window” in her room and ran to a neighbor’s house to get help. He notified the emergency services.

15 year old accuses his brother

But that neighbor was told that they had already received an emergency call and were on their way.

Seven minutes before the neighbor called, the 15-year-old had already called. Sounding out of breath and in complete panic, he told the 911 operator that his 13-year-old brother had killed everyone in the family and that he had committed suicide afterwards. “Come quickly, I’m hiding in the bathroom,” was heard on the recording in the control room.

“My 13-year-old brother was caught watching porn and was going to be punished for it. Maybe that was the motive,” the 15-year-old caller added.

But his story was quickly shattered after his younger sister’s testimony. Although she will also be put on the grill to see if she knows more than she has said so far. According to the girl, her brother was the only one who knew the number combination of the safe in which their father kept his gun.

Juvenile court or adult court?

The 15-year-old, who according to his lawyer had never come into contact with the juvenile court before, was arrested and on Thursday he was charged by the juvenile court with five counts of murder and attempted murder.

If he is found guilty and his case remains in juvenile court, he could be held until age 25 without further sanctions, the King County Prosecutor’s Office said. If convicted and charged in adult court, the teen could be sentenced to a minimum of 25 years.

But for the time being he has not made any confessions and the court also wants to thoroughly interrogate the 11-year-old girl once she has gotten over the biggest shock.

She is currently still in hospital recovering from her injuries, but once she can go home, she will be cared for by family.
