In Chicago, a synagogue parishioner was wounded; the shooter shouted “Allahu Akbar”

Chicago police are investigating an incident that occurred in the city on October 26. An armed man opened fire on a 39-year-old Jew on his way to the synagogue, wounding him in the shoulder. The shooter can be heard on surveillance cameras shouting “Allahu Akbar”.

The police arrived at the scene and entered into a shootout with the attacker. He was seriously injured and was taken to hospital, where his condition is listed as critical. There were no injuries among the police.

“The shooting occurred on the Shabbat following the holiday of Simchat Torah. I spoke with Superintendent Larry Snelling and he assured me that there was no longer a threat and that the Chicago police would do everything to ensure the safety of our community,” said Chicago Jewish community spokeswoman Debra Silverstein.
