Seven people died and another is in serious condition after being victims of the impact of two rockets launched this Thursday (31) from Lebanon by Hezbollah against the city of Metula, in northern Israel, according to the report. Canal 12.
The Israeli broadcaster reported that the dead were four Thai workers and one Israeli, who worked in the field about 100 meters from the border with Lebanon. In total, two projectiles hit the place where the workers were, according to the newspaper Yediot Ahronot.
“The State is normalizing this situation,” said the city’s mayor, David Azoulai, in statements to the newspaper, according to which agricultural workers periodically went to the area to pick apples and care for the trees, despite the military conflict on the border.
Metula is Israel’s northernmost city and is located just 150 meters from the Lebanese border, making it a regular target of Hezbollah rockets, although the city was completely evacuated almost a year ago.
At 11:38 am (local time, 6:38 am Brasília), the Israeli Army reported that anti-aircraft alarms were sounding in the city, moments before the attack.
Early in the morning, the terrorist group claimed responsibility for launching several rockets with “missile barriers” and projectiles against four settlements in northern Israel, including Kiryat Shmona, about seven kilometers from Metula.
In other statements, Hezbollah also claimed similar attacks with “artillery shells” against “concentrations of Israeli enemy troops” in the Khiam area, on the border between Lebanon and Israel.
Since October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah began launching rockets at Israel in support of Hamas, in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Army and the pro-Iran group have maintained a constant exchange of fire that has claimed lives on both sides of the border.
In total, 70 people have died on the Israeli side, almost half of whom are civilians.
