North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile

The North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the DPRK has tested an intercontinental ballistic missile. The statement called the launch an update of the strategic missile power record.

“This is a fair and completely legitimate military measure that shows our determination to respond to enemies who threaten the security of the republic,” said North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. This statement was taken as evidence of the timing of the launch to coincide with the US elections.

According to the Korean and Japanese military, the missile was in flight for 87 minutes and flew 1,000 kilometers, falling 200 kilometers from the island of Hokkaido. The DPRK conducted its previous tests of an intercontinental missile in December 2023.
