Frankenberg: One dead, 13 injured in hospital fire

Frankenberg (Eder) – In the event of a fire in the hospital in Frankenberg (Hesse) a patient died. The police said in the evening that 13 other people were injured.

According to initial findings, the fire broke out in a patient room. It should be located in the basement and be part of the internal medicine department. The fire alarms went off. The deceased is said to be the patient from the affected room.

Patients inhaled toxic gases

The fire, which broke out around 6:40 p.m., was extinguished. According to “Hessische/Niedersächsische Allgemeine” (HNA), 13 more patients were transferred to other hospitals because they inhaled toxic smoke or needed other care. Since parts of the hospital are no longer usable for the time being, around 150 patients have to be transferred to surrounding clinics. Details about the identity of the dead patient or the exact cause of the fire were initially unclear. The police are investigating.
